Today we drove up to Gateway National Recreation Area to visit Sandy Hook and Fort Hancock. The Sandy Hook Light, America's oldest operating lighthouse (1764), is really cool. Lily and Royce got to go up in the lighthouse. If we can recover anything off of Royce's laptop, he got tons of really fabulous pictures that day.
Getting ready to go.
Royce & Thayne!
Really neat huge old house on Fort Hancock.
(Can you see the osprey nest on the top of the chimney!?)
Check out the big gun.
After checking out many of the beaches on Sandy Hook, walking through gun batteries, and driving through all of Fort Hancock Historic District, we drove south on the New Jersey Coast to go eat dinner at Bum Rogers, a local seafood bar and restaurant. We had steamers, a mussel native to the area, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and garlic crab. Excellent.
